1. What is the typical cost of a metal roof?
The average cost is approximately twice the cost of a low-grade regular roof, however, the cost of the asphalt roof has doubled since June of 2008 so it makes it much more comparable in price. Metal roofing is the wise choice because you get 5 times the life span of an asphalt shingle roof and cedar too. You may spend a little more but you get a lot more!
2. Is it noisy when it rains?
No it is not noisy when it rains. You can still hear an asphalt roof but with a metal roof the only difference is the pitch during a rainfall. Example: When you go into a pole barn where there is no sound barrier such as sheathing or insulation it makes a noise, ting, ting, ting. When you walk into a house or commercial building with a sound barrier you do not hear it so much. I have a metal roof on my house and I enjoy the sounds of a metal roof. It’s really no different than asphalt.
3. Should I tear off my old roof or should I do a layover?
It is always best to tear the old roof off because you are replacing your roof with a metal roof that you will hopefully never have to be replaced again. It is in the home owner's best interest to get a thorough inspection of the roof sheathing inside and out to check for any leaks or damaged areas. Remember that water and wood lead to
mold, mold leads to allergies and possibly lifetime sickness for you and your family.
4. What kind of underlayment and fasteners does Diversified Roofing Co. use?
Underlayment is installed just like a regular asphalt roof but we use a high-temperature ice and water to insure that it won't melt under extreme heat under the metal roof system. It is installed 6' up from the eaves, around the chimney and all penetrations We then cover the rest of the of the roof with a 30 pound felt guaranteed not to rip or
leak and has a 20 year warranty. We screw all panels down to insure the best weather-tight and wind resistance possible.
5. What are the energy savings of a metal roof?
Because a metal roof has reflectivity and emissive elements it cools your home and you will not be forced to run your air conditioner all day which means savings throughout the summer. I have noticed that I do not use so much heat during the winter time either because it holds heat in my house. With excellent heating and cooling elements in a metal roof I believe that I will pay for my metal roof within 10 years because of the energy savings alone.
6. Why Diversified Roofing Company should install your roof?
We recommend that you have a professional contract install your roof because a poor installation could be detrimental to your home and there are no warranties. Because Diversified Roofing Company installs metal roofs 100% of the time which is installed by co-owner, Bill Anderson, you can be assured that you will have a professional install in less time and hassle than you could do it yourself.
7. What kind of maintenance does a metal roof require?
Your metal roof will need minimal maintenance. Once a year, a painted panel may be rinsed off by using a light detergent to remove dust, dirt or other contaminants that may impair the efficiency of your roof.
Is it just a roof? Not really. It's a big part of the overall appearance of your home and it also provides protection for your home and its contents. Diversified Roofing offered the option of either a metal roof or an asphalt roof. I chose to go with an asphalt roof.
The options didn't stop there. Shingles were available from more than one manufacturer and in multiple styles. Then you have to choose the color that will best accent your home. Picking the color of your shingles from a brochure of sample shingles may not produce the result you want and once the shingles are installed they are going to be there for a while.
When I had narrowed down my color choices Diversified Roofing game me the addresses of homes in my area where I could see what those shingles looked like on a house. A couple of quick trips in the car helped me make my color selection. At that point I still wasn't 100% sure I'd made the right choice but when the shingles were installed on my roof I knew I'd made the right choice.
The actual installation of the shingles was a breeze. The dumpster arrived ahead of time and on the day they started they started the crew and materials arrived at about the same time. It was off with the old and on with the new and by the end of the day I had a new roof that looks great. The day after the installation was completed Tracy called me to tell me that the crew reported that they had broken two landscape lights and she offered to pay for the damage. Despite the urging of my dog, Max, I told Tracy that he was the culprit.
Working with Diversified Roofing was a pleasant experience. I would, and have, recommended them to friends.

Metal Roof versus Grapefruit sized Hail = Winner Metal Roof!
Submitted by Diversified Roofing
It was a roof hit by grapefruit size hail in Northfield, 2006. This is the power of a durable metal roof. While other roofs in the hail ridden area had blue tarps over them due to penetrations in their homes the metal roof still had its integrity!

What You Need To Know About Mold
Nathan Yost, MD
Joseph Lstiburek, Ph.D, P.Eng.
Terry Brennan, MS
What Is Mold?
Mold, one type of fungus, is different from plants, animals and bacteria. Molds are decomposers of dead organic material such as leaves, wood and plants. Molds sometimes can infect living plants and animals. The spores and hair-like bodies of individual mold colonies are too small for us to see without a microscope. When a lot of mold is growing on a surface, it often appears black or green. The color of mold is influenced by the nutrient source and the age of the colony. If mold is growing behind vinyl wallpaper, colorful pink or purple splotches may appear. Mold growing on fabric is called mildew.
What Does Mold Need to Grow?
Mold needs water to grow; without water mold cannot grow. Mold also needs food, oxygen and a temperature between 40 degrees and 100 degrees F. Since mold decomposes dead organic (once living) material it can grow on wood, the paper facing on gypsum board (drywall) and other materials made from wood. Molds secrete digestive fluids that decompose the substrate, making nutrients available. Mold can also digest some synthetic materials such as adhesives, pastes and paints. While mold cannot get nutrients from inorganic material such as concrete, glass and metal, it can grow on the dirt present on these surfaces. Molds prefer damp or wet material. Some molds can get moisture from the air when the air is very damp, that is when the relative humidity is above 80%. The high humidity makes surfaces damp enough for mold to grow.
